Let's Think About It Again
Mask Use and Family-Centered Responses in the Time of COVID-19
Case Study
Mrs. Jones is an 82-year-old woman with FAST stage 7c Alzheimer's disease. She recently has been enrolled in hospice after a fall led to a hip fracture. She is unable to care for herself and her Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) score is 40%. Her only caregiver, a daughter named Jackie who is 58 years old and has oxygen-dependent COPD, is at the house frequently. The use of masks during COVID-19 has been challenging for Jackie because she has difficulties breathing with the mask.
