Reflections on the 2018 American Medical Association House of Delegates Annual Meeting
Tammie Quest, MD FAAHPM
Attendance is worth a thousand words. I made it my business this year to attend the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates (HOD) Annual Meeting to support “Team AMA-AAHPM.” My goal was to learn more about our presence and impact there, and to take the pulse of one of the largest entities within organized medicine on issues important to the Academy.
Like many of you who are AMA members, I am accustomed to JAMA arriving in my mailbox weekly. I read the AMA Wire for breaking news in the world of medicine and I very occasionally take advantage of other member benefits. Over the years, I wholeheartedly have agreed with the AMA on some issues and vehemently opposed their stance on others. Differences aside, as a member of the AAHPM Board of Directors, the challenge to go deeper into the value added by our representation at the AMA is requisite when we consider that a key AAHPM strategic goal is to advance public awareness and policy.
