Buprenorphine for Pain

Uncontrolled pain can negatively affect all aspects of a person's being and is a prevalent concern among those facing serious illness. Managing pain remains a clinical imperative, though the pendulum has swung radically and repeatedly regarding recommendations for the appropriate use of opioid analgesics. Recommendations for managing pain should be individually tailored to meet each person's needs, with a mind to the anticipated benefits, risks (including stigma), cost, and availability.1,2
