Medicare Physician Payment: 2022 Updates, Need for Reform

As the new year loomed and the COVID-19 pandemic continued to stress the healthcare delivery system, the last thing the provider community needed was to brace for steep Medicare physician payment cuts. And yet, in a fashion that harkened back to the routine calls for a congressional “doc fix” to address cuts so often prescribed under the old Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate formula, medical societies—including AAHPM—were once again pleading with federal lawmakers to take action to curb a combined 9.75% decrease set to take effect in 2022.
