Advanced Pain Management with Ketamine, Buprenorphine, Lidocaine, and Opioid Infusions: Practical Pearls and Skills Practice

Practices for prescribing and titrating opioid infusions vary widely, including within the field of hospice and palliative care. Despite the clinical incentive to change opioid prescribing practices, many clinicians feel they lack the support to acquire the skills, obtain the knowledge and resources, and create an action plan to enact change.
Through a combination of cases and facilitated small group hands-on learning, this workshop will give you the opportunity to obtain and practice the skills required to administer buprenorphine and infusions of ketamine, lidocaine, and opioids.
This course is planned for in-person attendance only. It will be recorded and made available at a later date.

AAHPM will require all registrants to submit proof of vaccination (i.e. Pfizer, Modera, Johnson and Johnson) against COVID-19 at least two weeks prior to meeting.

Faculty Content Experts
Shorin Nemeth, DO FACOI
Dr Nemeth is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Pain Medicine. His particular field of interest is cancer pain, but he treats all types of painful conditions. He has a holistic approach toward Pain Medicine which focuses on the biopsychosocial model. He has lectured throughout the country and been extensively involved in Medical Student, Resident, Fellow, and Physician education. He has served as a Subject Matter Expert on Pain Medicine for the American Osteopathic Association as well as the FDA sponsored CO*RE REMS opioid education program.
Dr Nemeth is now located in Portland, OR after spending nearly a decade in the Midwest and Northeast. He is currently the Medical Director for Comprehensive Pain Services with Providence Health and Services.
Dr Nemeth is married to a neuroscientist and cancer researcher, Dr Pucilowska. They have one child, Charlie, and a malamute named Mishka. In his “leisure time”, he and his wife enjoy cycling, rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking, and yoga.
Gregg VandeKieft, MD, MA, FAAFP, FAAHPM
Gregg VandeKieft is Executive Medical Director, Palliative Practice Group and Tele-PC, for the Providence Institute for Human Caring, supporting palliative care programs across the seven western states the Providence Health System serves. He currently provides inpatient palliative care consults at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA, and Providence Centralia Hospital. He provides tele-palliative care consults to critical access hospitals in rural Washington, and previously served as a hospice medical director and outpatient palliative care clinic medical director. Prior to transitioning his clinical practice exclusively to hospice and palliative medicine, he practiced full-spectrum family medicine for 20 years. Dr. VandeKieft is a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Washington, where he previously co-directed the Palliative Care Module of the Chronic Care Clerkship. He completed the University of Washington’s Certificate Program in Health Care Ethics, Michigan State University’s master’s program in Health and Humanities, and Harvard Medical School’s Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice. He received the 2018 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physician Award in the Senior Physician category and the 2017 Stuart J. Farber Award for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Care from the Washington State Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Pamela S. Moore, PharmD, BCPS, BCGP
Dr. Moore obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio and then a PGY2 Pain Management & Palliative Care Pharmacy Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since re-joining Summa Health System in 2008 she serves as faculty for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship, a preceptor in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, as well as the Residency Program Director for the PGY2 Pain Management and Palliative Care Pharmacy Residency. She is currently a member of several hospice and palliative care interdisciplinary teams including home and nursing facility-based hospice, home-based palliative care, and ambulatory palliative care clinic.
Kathleen Broglio, DNP, ANP-BC, ACHPN, CPE, FPCN, FAANP
Kathleen Broglio, DNP, ANP-BC, ACHPN, CPE, FPCN, FAANP Kathleen Broglio is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and Nurse Practitioner in Palliative Medicine, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She has conducted research on prevalence of opioid misuse risk in oncology; cannabis use in palliative medicine, telehealth during COVID19, and interprofessional palliative care education. Kathleen works with patients with serious illness, complex pain and symptom management needs and substance use disorders. She mentors colleagues, lectures and has published on the treatment of pain in the setting of risks for substance use disorder. Her experience includes acute and chronic pain management; and acute, ambulatory, and home-based palliative care.
She received a Bachelors in Economics from University of Maryland, Bachelor of Nursing from University of Hawaii, Masters in Nursing from University of Washington, and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from New York University. She completed a palliative care fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York.

The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
The AAHPM designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

If the course moves to a fully virtual meeting, registrants of the in-person meeting will automatically be transferred to the virtual meeting.
