Choosing Wisely®: Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
AAHPM is a proud partner in the Choosing Wisely® campaign, a national effort led by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation to help physicians, patients, and other healthcare stakeholders think and talk about the overuse of healthcare resources.
The Academy developed "Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.” The list consists of targeted, evidence-based recommendations intended to help promote conversations between physicians and patients about utilizing the most appropriate treatments and avoiding care that may provide no benefit.
AAHPM hopes that participating in Choosing Wisely will help increase awareness of the benefits of palliative care and hospice among both physicians and the public, leading to better care for more patients. To support this, the Academy also developed a list of talking points (Members Only) based on its Choosing Wisely recommendations.
